Why even Blog?
Blogging is dead now, right?
-Kash

Blogging has always been a great way to connect with others who share similar interests. So, when I created my new website to showcase my services and establish my professional IT presence online, I thought it would be a good idea to add a blog section to engage with a like-minded community. However, I found myself wondering, with the prevalence of social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Instagram, Is anyone still reading blogs? They seem so archaic—are they? After reflecting on this for a while, I identified six key reasons to maintain a blog. While I'm sure there are many more reasons, here are the ones that stand out to me:
1. Share Your Perspective:
Blogging offers a platform to express your thoughts, feelings, and opinions on various topics and experiences over time, showcasing your personal growth and how your views have evolved. You may not realize it, but your opinion matters—even if it resonates with just one person.
2. Improve Communication and Writing Skills:
This is a biggie for me. I struggle with writing, and I’m not the greatest communicator on the planet. Blogging and publishing my posts help me organize my thoughts and refine my writing and communication abilities, which are extremely valuable skills in both personal and professional settings. Blogging provides a platform for practice, feedback, and growth, ultimately making you a more effective and confident communicator.
3. The Protégé Effect:
This phenomenon occurs when teaching someone else deepens the teacher's understanding of the material. It fosters better comprehension, retention, and mastery of a subject. Tiago Forte eloquently encapsulates the protégé effect: “When one person teaches, two people learn.”
4. Blogging Might Help You Get a Job:
While it doesn’t replace a traditional resume, a blog can complement and enhance your job application. It reflects your personality, offering employers insight into your values and communication style. This can help them determine if you would be a good fit for their organization. A well-maintained blog can enhance your visibility and reputation, leaving a positive impression when employers research candidates online before making hiring decisions.
5. Serendipity:
I believe in the power of happy accidents. Serendipity often involves discovering something beneficial while searching for something else. I’ve experienced this numerous times in my life. By staying open to new experiences and possibilities, I have encountered unexpected opportunities and breakthroughs that I hadn’t considered. You never know who might read your blog or what opportunities may arise from it. Being receptive to new experiences increases the chances of serendipitous moments.
6. Ownership and Content Control:
Your blog is a curation of your thoughts and ideas. You have complete control over what you choose to publish, free from restrictions imposed by third-party platforms. You own the content and direct its management. You don't have to worry about posts being removed due to policy changes on external sites. You can explore monetization options like affiliate marketing and sponsored posts, selling products and services without platform limitations. You have the flexibility to add new features, integrate with social media, or shift your focus based on your interests.
In summary, blogging provides a valuable platform for sharing knowledge and insights, helping to establish an online presence that connects you with individuals who share similar interests. It enhances writing, clarity, and communication skills while allowing for the expression of thoughts, experiences, and perspectives. Additionally, blogging facilitates self-reflection and the tracking of personal and professional growth. Sharing knowledge with others deepens your understanding of a subject, serving as a powerful tool for enhancing your own learning. Having a blog is far from outdated; it creates something enduring. It’s your personal space —your own little corner of the internet.
